Apollo Tyres today launched tyres for electric passenger vehicles and electric two-wheelers. The company is targetting the PV segment with the Apollo Amperion range and the two-wheelers market with the Apollo WAV range.
The company is already in discussion with automobile OEMs in India to supply these tyres for EVs, noted Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Apollo Tyres. He said, 'We will be targetting for a lions share in the EV space in india, in both PV and two-wheeler segments.'
The company has become the first in India to launch EV tyres with a five-star rating from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Developing EV tyres for electric motorcycles is the company's next focus; scooters currently lead the electric wheeler space in India.
EV tyres differ from normal ones in terms of components used, design and construction. These also have to be built in a way that there's less noise and more firmness to handle increased acceleration and more weight.
