Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has unveiled BearingVisionAI, an advanced application designed to transform the inspection process for mechanical elements such as bearings, gears, and shafts. This AI-powered tool, developed by the Tribology Research Group at the Chennai Campus, promises to significantly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of mechanical inspections across various industries.
Mechanical inspections are a critical aspect of operations for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), process industries, small-scale enterprises, and assembly lines. However, traditional inspection methods are often time-consuming, labour-intensive, and prone to human error. BearingVisionAI addresses these challenges by offering a user-friendly solution that detects and quantifies mechanical failures in a matter of seconds. Users can simply upload an image of the surface to be inspected, and the app quickly identifies the type of failure and the extent of the damage. The app’s adaptability allows it to be customised for various applications, making it a versatile tool for different inspection needs.
Dr Shubrajit Bhaumik, the Lead Principal Investigator and Centre Head at the Tribology and Interactive Surfaces Research Laboratory (TRISUL), noted that the app was developed with the challenges faced by application engineers in mind, particularly those working in demanding environments like cement mills, kilns, and agricultural fields. The key features of BearingVisionAI include high accuracy, quick analysis, and minimal need for human intervention, making it a valuable tool for engineers in the field.
