Amara Raja Infra, a division of the $2 billion Amara Raja Group, has successfully completed India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, Ladakh, commissioned for NTPC Ltd. This project marks a significant step toward emission-free transport in and around Leh, positioning India among the leading nations in green mobility.

The station was inaugurated by Union Power Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, and will support the operationalisation of five hydrogen fuel cell buses in the region.

The scope of the project involved comprehensive tasks, including designing, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning, along with three years of operations and maintenance on a turnkey basis. Despite extreme conditions—at an altitude of 3,400 meters above sea level and temperatures ranging from -25°C to 30°C—the project was completed in two years.

“The completion of this challenging project has reaffirmed our EPC expertise, and we are very excited to be the first player to enter the green hydrogen infrastructure space,' said Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head (Power EPC), Amara Raja Infra.

The green hydrogen station is expected to serve as a precursor to large-scale hydrogen mobility and storage projects across India. It will also facilitate the development and deployment of similar hydrogen fuelling stations nationwide, supporting India's broader efforts to adopt sustainable energy solutions.
