Boeing has delivered the first 737 MAX jetliner to India’s new airline, Akasa Air, in Seattle, USA. Akasa Air will receive the aircraft in Delhi, early next week.

Vinay Dube - Founder, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Akasa Air said the delivery of the first aircraft was a symbolic milestone in Akasa Air’s journey, bringing it one step closer to the process of obtaining an Air Operator’s Permit (AOP) and leading to our commercial launch. He said the airline remained focused on transforming India’s air transportation ecosystem.

Stan Deal, President and CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said Akasa Air would profitably serve the Indian market while passing on savings to its passengers by flying the advanced, environmentally progressive 737 MAX fleet with greater fuel efficiency and lower operating costs.

Akasa Air has a total of 72 aircraft on order and will receive 18 aircraft by March 2023. The remaining 54 aircraft will be delivered by 2027.
