Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) Akasa Air has ordered four more Boeing 737 MAX jetliners at the ongoing Paris Airshow. This order adds to its order book for 76 aircraft, which includes 23 737-8s and 53 high-capacity 737-8-200 airplanes slated for delivery over the next four years.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air, said the new orders would support the airline’s rapid domestic expansion. “These airplanes allow us to take full advantage of the category leading 737-8 aircraft with its unparalleled range, as we prepare our foray into international routes.”
The airline presently operates a fleet of 19 737-8s and has yet to induct its high-capacity 737-8-200 jetliners into service.
Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President, Commercial Sales and Marketing, Boeing, said the efficiency and range of the 737-8 would support Akasa Air's plan to expand domestic and regional networks. The airline commenced operations in 2022 with its first 737-8 and now operates to 16 destinations across India.
Compared to older-generation airplanes, the 737 MAX jetliner family reduces fuel use and carbon emissions by 20% and has a 50% smaller noise footprint.
