Bajaj Auto launched the Chetak electric scooter a few years ago. Ever since the launch, Bajaj has been working on keeping the price of the scooter in check while improving the features list with time. However, with the advent of fresh, more affordable competition in the electric scooter space, Bajaj is readying an affordable Chetak.
The affordable Bajaj Chetak is likely to have a hub mounted motor to keep costs low. Along with this, Bajaj is also likely to fit a smaller capacity battery than what you get in the top-spec Chetak Urbane version. Bajaj may also skip some of the features, like a TFT display that you see on the Urbane.
In terms of design, the low cost Chetak EV is likely to look exactly like the higher-spec scooters. That said, we can expect to see a dedicated set of colours on the affordable Chetak.
Speaking of affordable, Bajaj is expected to price this variant around the Rs 1 lakh, ex-showroom, mark. At present, the Chetak is the third-highest selling electric scooter in the market. The lower cost variant should help Bajaj gain some more share. The move to launch an affordable Chetak couldn't have been made at a better time considering competition like the Ola S1X slashed prices to Rs 70,000 while the new Ather Rizta costs Rs 1.12 lakh, ex-showroom.
