In a bid to incorporate digitalisation at the core of the automotive industry, the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), on Friday, organised a session on Auto Data Exchange (AutoDX) for component manufacturers and suppliers.
Based on the IBM Sterling B2B Collaboration Network tech, the EDI platform was launched in 2014 to eliminate the inefficiencies caused due to manual processes to exchange transactional data by shifting to data exchange through the cloud.
Speaking at the session, Akhilesh Rai, Chief Strategy Officer & Director, Suprajit Group, noted that in the first year of its introduction, the platform saw one million transactions.
In 2016 the platform saw a jump in the transaction to three million, with 2017 seeing the introduction of GST implementation.
By 2018, it jumped by 150%, with cumulative reported transactions of 12 million since the launch. The following year added another five million transactions to the platform.
The platform currently serves more than 100 companies, with the latest addition being Mahindra, which was added in 2020.
During the session, Rai also noted a few shortcomings of the platform, with one being that the platform has seen a mixed result in India due to the lack of understating of the software at the Tier-1 /2 level.
Moreover, he suggested that the platform could become more flexible by including web-based systems making the small suppliers adapt to the software easily.
Concluding the session, Sri Karumbati, Chairman ACMA Digital Committee & Group CIO, SSS Group, said that ACMA, in collaboration with SIAM and IBM, is making ways to incorporate every supplier and OEM onto the platform.
