Bajaj Auto expands its EV line-up with GOGO with the long-range P7012.

With GOGO, Bajaj mobility outlook

Being the most high volume segment, electric 3Ws are heading the electrification charge for the industry. It is only natural that legacy manufacturers start taking the segment seriously and shift from traditional CNG-based powertrains to battery power. Since RE (rear-engine) is not how the leader can position itself, GOGO is the new electric line-up that Bajaj has introduced for its 3Ws.

The Indian three-wheeler industry has witnessed significant changes, with electric penetration reaching nearly 20% in the L5 segment. In response, Bajaj Auto aims to capitalise on this shift, leveraging its extensive experience in the traditional three-wheeler market while addressing customer concerns regarding range, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Samardeep Subandh, President of Bajaj Auto’s Intra-City Business Unit, explains the rationale behind GOGO: 'There is a clear need for a brand that offers reliability and high earning potential. Customers have decades of experience with Bajaj’s traditional three-wheelers, but the EV transition demands an even greater assurance of reliability. GOGO is our answer to this need.'

P7012 Brings Longer Range & More Comfort

As part of the GOGO line-up of P70s and P50s, Bajaj Auto unveiled the P7012, an electric three-wheeler built for last-mile connectivity and cargo applications. With a certified range of 251 km, it outperforms many competitors, solving a key issue faced by drivers in the EV segment—range anxiety. The vehicle is powered by a 12.1 kWh LFP battery which offers stability, longer life cycles, and better performance under varying temperatures.

Additionally, it features a 5.5 kW motor, two-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), and 27.8% gradeability, ensuring smooth flyover climbs and strong load-bearing capacity. Subandh stated, 'Current products in the market offer a real-world range of only 130–160 km, which isn't enough for commercial operators. With GOGO P7012, we are setting a new standard by providing extended range and better usability, ensuring that customers maximise their earnings.'

Key Consumer Concerns

Bajaj Auto has built its reputation on reliability, and with the introduction of GOGO, the company ensures that the same trust factor extends to its EV offerings. Unlike many startup EV brands struggling with durability and service infrastructure, Bajaj's deep-rooted dealership network provides widespread service and after-sales support. The five-year warranty and roadside assistance (RSA) further reinforce consumer confidence.

'We were the first to offer a five-year warranty and 1,20,000 km coverage. Our dealer network is already well established, and we are ensuring the same high level of support for our electric customers as we do for our traditional vehicles', added Subandh.

The driver who drove us around the bustling city of Lucknow informed us that it has good suspension which significantly improves the ride, which we can confirm. Moreover, the P7012 features hill-hold assistance, climb mode, and 300mm water-wading ability, making it well-suited for diverse urban and semi-urban terrains. It also comes with a steel body which makes it sturdier, and radial tubeless tyres, adding to its long-term reliability.

The Growing Market

With the electric three-wheeler industry growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 127% over the past five years, Bajaj is positioning GOGO to capture a significant share of this rapidly expanding market. Offering cost savings on fuel and maintenance are major factors influencing commercial vehicle owners. The operating cost of P7012 is approximately INR 4.50 per kilometre, compared to INR 5 per kilometre for CNG alternatives, providing a lucrative financial incentive for fleet operators.

Unlike some competitors experimenting with fast charging and swapping stations, Bajaj’s P7012 follows a home-charging model with a standard 15-amp socket, offering 80% charge in four hours. This approach aligns with the fact that most operators park and charge their vehicles overnight. However, as EV adoption scales, Bajaj will need to explore faster charging solutions to support high-utilisation commercial fleets.

Subandh stated that charging infrastructure will be a challenge as penetration increases. “We expect smooth adoption up to a certain level, but after that, cities like Mumbai and Delhi will need dedicated charging solutions to sustain further growth,” he mentioned.

Brand Expansion & Positioning

Bajaj Auto’s decision to introduce GOGO as a standalone brand rather than selling under its existing name is a calculated move allowing the OEM to distinguish its EV lineup from its ICE models. By distributing GOGO vehicles through its established dealership network, the company ensures consumer trust, leveraging its legacy while maintaining a distinct identity for its EV products.

Currently, the company is focusing on the L5 category, where it already commands a dominant market share. The possibility of expanding into the L3 e-rickshaw segment remains open for the future. Given that electric penetration in L3 three-wheelers has already reached nearly 50%, Bajaj may consider tapping into this market as infrastructure and consumer confidence grow further.

With monthly sales targets of around 4,000–4,500 units, the vehicle maker is setting ambitious yet achievable goals for GOGO. If the overall three-wheeler market continues its projected 6–8% growth and the electric segment maintains a 15% CAGR over the next five years, GOGO is well-positioned to be a leader in this space.

The biggest challenge ahead will be infrastructure support, particularly for fleet operations in high-density urban areas like Mumbai and Delhi, where home charging is not always feasible. To maintain its market lead, Bajaj will need to introduce faster charging options, potential partnerships for battery-swapping solutions, and extended service coverage.
