SmartSoC

In the rapidly advancing world of automotive technology, SmartSoC Solutions, a leading product engineering company specialising in semiconductors, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and automotive innovation, is poised to redefine industry standards. By integrating cutting-edge digital technologies and crafting bespoke solutions tailored to the unique demands of the automotive sector, SmartSoC is set to drive significant enhancements in both efficiency and business growth.

Speaking to Mobility Outlook, Srinivasa Gupta, Chief Technology Officer, SmartSoC Solutions, said the company offers a unique proposition for the Indian automotive industry by envisioning vehicles as 'Mobiles on Wheels.' With the rapid advancements in mobile technology and chip design, many of these innovations can be seamlessly integrated into the automotive sector, he said.

In today’s advanced automotive landscape, modern vehicles are intricately designed with over 100 chips, each playing a crucial role in their functionality. SmartSoC, with its deep expertise in chip design and AI/ML technologies, is at the forefront of this transformation, enhancing the content and capabilities of every vehicle within the Indian automotive ecosystem. This strategic approach goes beyond mere optimisation; it fuels innovation, crafting vehicles that are not only smarter and more efficient but also finely attuned to the dynamic demands of the Indian market. Through this fusion of cutting-edge technology and automotive engineering, the company is paving the way for a new era of intelligent mobility.

Digital Twin

Discussing the transformative impact of digital technologies on the automotive industry, Gupta highlighted the growing significance of Digital Twins—virtual replicas that mirror the end product with remarkable accuracy. In the realms of automotive design and engineering, these digital counterparts have become indispensable tools. They empower designers and engineers to simulate and optimise a wide array of scenarios, enabling them to refine designs and preemptively address potential challenges long before the need for expensive physical prototypes arises. This sophisticated approach not only elevates efficiency but also fosters more informed decision-making, culminating in superior product quality and significantly reduced development costs. “In SmartSoC, we are developing Digital Twin for Component, ECU, Module, and Vehicle level as well,” he said. By deploying AI and ML Models the company enhances various aspects of vehicle design and functionality, he added.

Discussing the company’s unique value proposition, M S Subramanian, VP - Automotive, SmartSoC Solutions, reiterated their ability to provide end-to-end solutions, offering seamless integration from concept through to product development as turnkey solutions. “Our customers benefit from our in-depth knowledge and well connected in semiconductor eco system, product design expertise in automotive domain in terms of Time To Market, Quality, and Cost,” he said.

Megatrends

The automotive industry is in the midst of a profound transformation, driven by four pivotal megatrends: connectivity, autonomous vehicles, electric mobility, and shared transportation. These innovations are not only revolutionising technology but also reshaping business models, compelling companies to reimagine their strategies.

As consumer expectations continue to evolve, the demand for vehicles will extend far beyond traditional transportation. Customers will seek enhanced safety features, superior user experiences, greater flexibility, and a more integrated presence in their daily lives.

To succeed in this rapidly changing landscape, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) must prioritise delivering exceptional customer experiences—what has now become known as the 'Business of Experience,' he said.

Subramanian pointed out that this approach necessitates a comprehensive overhaul of customer-facing functions, including marketing, commerce, sales, and service. By becoming more customer-centric, companies can foster sustained growth and maintain their competitive edge in the industry.

Partners To Automotive Industry

SmartSoC positions itself as a key partner for various industries, offering a comprehensive journey from silicon to system. Gupta elaborated on this vision, explaining that the company provides turnkey solutions across a broad spectrum of sectors, including automotive, semiconductors, IoT, networking, industrial applications, security, and AI/ML robotics. In the automotive industry, SmartSoC collaborates closely with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, driving innovation across diverse vehicle segments.

In the two-wheeler segment, Gupta highlighted the critical importance of cost and quality in the electronics of instrument clusters. By working in close partnership with Tier-1 suppliers, the company streamline components, reduce size, and cut costs, helping to alleviate financial pressures and deliver more economical solutions, he said. The company is actively developing automotive-grade microcontrollers, semiconductor components, and sensors tailored to the specific needs of this segment, he added.

For passenger vehicles, SmartSoC assists its clients in developing advanced solutions, such as GPS-based toll collection systems that enhance efficiency and convenience. 'We are also pioneering the development of AI-based Front-End Collision Warning Systems (FCWS) specifically designed for Indian roads and transport conditions,' Gupta noted. He emphasised the company's commitment to pursuing increasingly challenging projects to demonstrate their capabilities and to prepare for the next generation of automotive technologies. 'We have multiple innovative approaches aimed at propelling the automotive industry forward,' he added.
