RAMP (Ramp Global) has emerged cash-positive by expanding into almost everything related to the automotive aftermarket in India, its CEO, Amit Kumar, told Mobility Outlook.

Formed in 2016-17 as a provider of software mechanisms for auto aftermarket workshops, the company is today present in insurance, fleet management, components sourcing and allied verticals. One of its prized mandates was a pilot with a government organisation and managing over 1,000 vehicles in its fleet.

“All the verticals we are present in are an aftermath of the difficulties faced by automotive workshops. One thing led to another and, today, we are not just providing software to over 1,000 workshops in India but are also present in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, South Africa, UAE, Qatar and Oman, and also have expansion plans into Canada, USA, Europe, Vietnam and Australia.,” said Kumar.

Reducing Attrition

According to him, RAMP has been successful in lowering attrition rates of both consumers and employees when it comes to aftermarket workshops. While consumers tend to frequently change workshops for automobile servicing and repairing, employees also switch jobs due to difficulties faced at workshops.

“The software tools we provide to workshops are not complicated and end up making the employee's life easy. Even someone not highly educated can use the software with ease,” said Kumar.

The company claims to have lowered attrition rates to under 20%.  Further, as part of the package RAMP also manages outbound and inbound call queries for different workshops. In a nutshell, all calls made to consumers for appointments are handled by its representatives.

“Workshops usually run on super thin margins, and that is why it usually becomes difficult for them to invest in a professional telecaller. We solved this problem and have requested all workshops involved with us to invest instead in more professionals for the vehicles,” Kumar explained.

Components And Insurance

He said RAMP has also helped workshops source components directly from the OEMs, as well as from the refurbished markets, and streamline inventory levels effectively.

“Getting spares on time and at the best cost is something that we have addressed for workshops,” added Kumar.

RAMP has tied up with a slew of fleet management companies and provides them options to get vehicles serviced from different workshops. As he put it, “Our product not only helps fleet companies find service and repair partners, but we are also able to help them with cost-effective spares.”

As for vehicle insurance, RAMP has helped fleet operators, vehicle owners and workshop managers start the process within 15 minutes via its software product.
