In the competitive world of luxury automobiles, innovation and customer satisfaction are key to staying ahead. And Mercedes-Benz, with its long history of pioneering technologies, continues to delivering vehicles that cater to the evolving needs of its customers in terms of safety, comfort and convenience.

The long-wheelbase (LWB) E-Class, first introduced in 2017, was a direct response to customer demand for more rear-seat comfort in a chauffeur-driven car, which seamlessly transitions into a driver’s vehicle on the weekends.

On the specialty of the all new LWB E-Class, Lance Bennett, Vice President-Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, told Mobility Outlook: “What makes this model even more special is that India is one of the only markets offering a right-hand-drive LWB E-Class, with the other being China, which offers a left-hand-drive version.” Developing a model with right-hand drive for the Indian market required extensive customisation, including ensuring the fit and finish of every component, he said.

Features like soft-closing doors and the Burmester sound system were added based on customer expectations. Extensive testing on suspension and ride quality ensured that the vehicle meets the luxury and performance standards that the carmaker is known for, with particular attention paid to ground clearance for Indian roads, he said.

According to Bennett, innovation doesn’t stop at design. The new E-Class features the latest integrated starter generator technology, which is part of the 48-volt mild hybrid system, allowing for additional power boosts while significantly improving fuel economy. The 3.0-litre inline six cylinder (E-450 variant) turbocharged engine delivers improved performance, propelling the car from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds.

Bennett further elaborated on the significance of this innovation, stating that the new LWB E-Class sets a new benchmark in the luxury business saloon segment. 'With its innovative technology and digital intelligence, the new E-Class is more advanced and personal than ever before. Its refined driving dynamics, paired with high-quality, luxurious interiors and renowned rear-seat comfort, make the LWB E-Class the most compelling choice for discerning luxury customers,' he remarked.

Sustainability

Aligned with the shifting preferences of environmentally conscious consumers, sustainability is a central focus in the design of the new E-Class, he noted. Mercedes-Benz has integrated numerous components made from resource-conserving materials, including recycled and renewable raw materials. A key example is the seat foam, which now incorporates certified recycled materials that match the quality of those traditionally derived from crude oil. This thoughtful inclusion highlights the brand’s focus in reducing its environmental footprint without compromising on luxury or performance, he pointed out.

By marrying sustainability with state-of-the-art innovation, Mercedes-Benz offers improved driving experience that appeals to both the eco-conscious and the luxury-seeking consumer, he pointed out.

The global carmaker aims to have a fleet of new passenger cars that are net carbon-neutral throughout their entire life cycle, from 2039 onwards. To achieve this, the company has incorporated sustainable materials into the construction of their vehicles. “From using recycled fishing nets in the carpets to employing recycled aluminium and steel in the vehicle’s framework, every little effort contributes to a greener future. Even some of the black plastic components in the car are made from recycled PET bottles,” Bennett mentioned.

Quality & Delivery

Bennett said that every vehicle undergoes rigorous testing before it reaches the customer; a pre-delivery inspection, followed by a premium handover experience at dealerships, ensures that customers feel special from the moment they take delivery of their car.

To enhance the ownership experience, Mercedes-Benz is also expanding its service network across India. The goal is to have a service outlet within two hours of every home in the country, ensuring that customers can easily maintain their vehicles without any hassle, he said.

Looking ahead, the OEM is not just content with keeping up with market trends; instead, it aims to lead. Innovations like the introduction of a selfie camera in their vehicles showcase its forward-thinking approach. “Bringing such features to market is no easy feat, given the strict homologation challenges, but the brand’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge technologies ensures it stays ahead of the curve,” he mentioned.

The LWB E-Class is not just a car—it’s an indicator to the brand’s ability to turn customer dreams into reality, while constantly pushing the envelope of what’s possible in automotive excellence, Bennett concluded.
