As Mercedes-Benz India reflects on its landmark 30th year of operations and an impressive 2024, the luxury car giant is steering into 2025 with ambitious plans to redefine automotive luxury and electrification in the Indian market.
CY24 Performance
Despite market fluctuations, the carmaker showcased resilience and robust growth in 2024. In the first half of the calendar year, the luxury car market grew by 9%, mirroring the company’s growth. However, in the second half, while the market managed only a modest 3% growth, Mercedes-Benz surged ahead with a remarkable 16% growth. Notably, nearly one in two luxury cars sold in India bore the iconic three-pointed star, underscoring the brand’s dominance.
The long wheelbase E-Class and a fresh wave of launches during the second half of 2024 were instrumental in this growth. The company also witnessed a 94% growth in its electric vehicle portfolio, doubling its EV sales and achieving a 6% penetration in the luxury EV market. As Santosh Iyer, CEO, Mecedes Benz India, aptly stated, “Electrification is a marathon, not a sprint,” stressing the company’s long-term focus on sustainable mobility.
The top-end vehicle segment emerged as a standout performer, growing by 30% and contributing one in four of the brand's sales. This reflects the increasing maturity and aspiration of India’s luxury car buyers.
Ambitious Plans
Mercedes-Benz India’s roadmap for 2025 is both bold and customer-centric, starting with the electrified G-Wagon, one of eight new launches planned for the year. The portfolio will also feature exclusive special editions, including the debut of the stunning AMG CLE 53 Coupe in Q2 2025, Iyer mentioned.
The company’s focus on curated customer experiences will deepen in 2025. Initiatives such as 'Beyond Land,' tailored for Maybach customers, and exclusive events like private previews of 'The Phantom of the Opera' aim to create unforgettable experiences for discerning buyers.
Expanding Reach and Infrastructure
Iyer further stated that Mercedes-Benz will significantly expand its footprint in 2025, adding 20 new touchpoints to its already extensive network of 125 locations across 50 cities. New markets such as Jammu, Patna, and Kanpur will witness the brand’s presence for the first time. Additionally, dealers will invest INR 450 crore to upgrade existing facilities, ensuring a state-of-the-art luxury experience.
In the EV space, the company plans to increase its ultra-fast DC charging installations and expand its existing network of over 1,000 charging points, making ownership more seamless for its customers.
More Than Cars: A Lifestyle Brand
Mercedes-Benz is also positioning itself as a lifestyle brand, launching exclusive Maybach luxury collections in partnership with Tata Cliq. From sunglasses and apparel to perfumes and accessories, the collection will cater to those aspiring to own a piece of the iconic star. A dedicated Maybach store will debut in Bangalore, showcasing the brand's commitment to blending luxury with accessibility.
A Legacy of Excellence
Having sold 200,000 cars in India to date, Mercedes-Benz’s journey is a testament to India’s evolving aspirations and growing economic prosperity, he pointed out. Over the past decade, the company has scaled rapidly, with 150,000 cars sold in the last 10 years alone.
Contribution To Road Safety
In its ongoing commitment to social responsibility, Mercedes-Benz India has pledged INR 7.5 crore towards road safety initiatives, aiming to reduce fatalities on key corridors such as the Samruddhi Mahamarg and Nizamabad routes.
As Mercedes-Benz India marks 30 years of operations, the company continues to focus on advancing its offerings in luxury, innovation, and sustainability. With a growing portfolio of electrified vehicles, enhanced customer experiences, and an ongoing commitment to the Indian market, the automaker aims to further strengthen its position in 2025.
